November 14, 2025

Hi friends! Now that it’s November, I’m thinking about my end of the year plans — things I want to get done before the end of the year, the books I want to read and prioritize, and my final blog posts for the year.

I thought it would be fun to take some time and go through those things with all of you. Get comfy and cozy and let’s talk about my end of the year plans.

TBR: Books on My Owned TBR That I Want to Read by the End of the Year

October 2, 2025

Hello my sundrops! To quote Maisie Peters, “I wake up and it’s October”. As we’re getting towards the end of the year, I’ve started to not only look ahead to 2026 (doesn’t sound like a real year) and what books I’m looking forward to, but also what books on my owned tbr that I’d like to read before the year is out.

One of my big goals for 2025 has been to get my owned tbr down to 100 books. At this moment, I’m at 135, which really isn’t a horrible number considering the amount of books that I buy throughout the year and the books that I get through the library or ARCs that I get. I do wish I remembered what my owned tbr was at when the year started to see how many I’ve already ticked off the list, but alas, I don’t remember. The thing is, I don’t think I’m going to get to 35 of the books on my owned tbr in addition to all the other things I want to read, so I decided to pick 9 books from my owned tbr that I’m going to prioritize.

Review: Hot Wax by M.L. Rio

September 9, 2025

Summer, 1989: ten-year-old Suzanne is drawn like a magnet to her father’s forbidden world of electric guitars and tricked-out cars. When her mother remarries, she jumps at the chance to tag along on the concert tour that just might be Gil and the Kills’ wild ride to glory. But fame has sharper fangs than anybody realized, and as the band blazes up the charts, internal power struggles set Gil and his group on a collision course destined for a bloody reckoning—one shrouded in mystery and lore for decades to come.

The only witness to a desperate act of violence, Suzanne spends the next twenty-nine years trying to disappear. She trades the music and mayhem of her youth for the quiet of the suburbs and the company of her mild-mannered husband Rob. But when her father’s sudden death resurrects the troubled past she tried so hard to bury, she leaves it all behind and hits the road in search of answers. Hitching her fate and Gil’s beloved car to two vagabonds who call an old Airstream trailer home, she finds everything she thought she’d lost forever: desire, adventure, and the woman she once wanted to be. But Rob refuses to let her go. Determined to bring her back where she belongs, he chases her across the country—and drives her to a desperation all her own.

Drenched in knock-down drag-out rock and roll, Hot Wax is a raucous, breakneck ride to hell and back—where getting lost might be the only way to find yourself and save your soul.

Book Haul: I ran a 30+ camp summer program for 9 weeks, I deserve some new books!

August 30, 2025

Every summer the theatre company I work for holds summer camps from June through August and as head of the Education Department, it is my job to plan, prep and run the program. There’s a lot of work that goes into planning summer camps; typically I start planning for the following year in late September of the year before. Aside from picking the camp dates (typically 9 weeks), my job responsibilities before camp begins are: deciding on the locations and confirming those with members of the city/local theater, choosing script titles and musical theatre songs, interviewing and staffing every camp with at minimum 3 staff members, setting up and monitoring camp registration, writing and editing scripts, editing songs, ordering and organizing all of our camp supplies, scheduling and planning staff training answering any and all parent questions regarding camps, and running the weekend long camp training.

Once camps begin, it’s 9 weeks of continually prepping for camps as the summer continues, handling parent questions, complaints and concerns, helping teachers handle any issues that come up with students and general questions that they have, arranging substitutes if an emergency comes up, and just general admin work to make sure that everything runs as smoothly as possible. If you couldn’t tell, it’s a lot of work. I’m very lucky to have amazing co-workers who help me whenever and however they can, but it’s still a lot of work and the summer can be pretty exhausting.

We had a very successful summer, but I was absolutely ready for a break! I feel so fortunate that I was able to take 3 weeks off and get some relaxation time in; and one of the things I did was buy some books! I bought quite a few plays in June for my 30 Plays in 30 Days challenge, and I bought one book in July, but I wanted to wait until I was finished with camp to do a big book haul, so once I was on break I headed over to the bookstore and decided to 👏🏼 treat 👏🏼 my 👏🏼self 👏🏼!

Mini Reviews: Reading Only Mystery/Thriller Books for a Week

August 19, 2025

We all know I love a good reading challenge, so I thought that with my first week of vacation time I would challenge myself to only read two genres. Since they’re my favorites, I obviously went with the mystery and thriller genres; especially since I have multiple unread mystery and thrillers on my physical tbr.

Over the course of the week I ended up finished 5 books and started a 6th! Now let’s get into the reviews!
