TBR: Summerween 2026

June 19, 2026

We’re a little over halfway through June (what) which means one of my favorite things in the bookish community is happening soon. Summerween! For those of you that don’t know, Summerween is an annual readathon hosted by GabbyReads and it’s always so much fun!

This year, Summerween is from July 3rd – 9th, so obviously, it’s time for me to share my TBR for the readathon!

This year the prompts are:

  • Read a book in the dark or at night
  • Read a thriller or horror book
  • Read a new to you author
  • Read a book with pink on the cover
  • Read a book with less than 250 pages

Last year I pulled a bunch of different books from my tbr that fit the prompts and picked between those. This year, I’m picking one specific book for each prompt. It wasn’t too hard to pick books for each prompt, and what’s even better is that all of the books are on my owned tbr, so this will really help me work towards reading down my owned tbr!

A few of these books will work for multiple prompts, but I’m going to try to complete 1 book per prompt in the hopes that I can finish more books that are not only on my owned tbr, but books that I’ve been looking forward to reading for a while.

For the “Read a Book in the Dark or at Night” prompt I decided to go with A Box Full of Darkness by Simone St. James. I love anything that involves a haunting, so that aspect of the story is what drew me to the book in the first place. I really like the way Simone St. James writes atmosphere, so I’m really excited about this one and think that this will be such a great one to read at night, in the dark. I will probably have to read this over the weekend because I feel like it’s gonna keep me up all night!

After loving C.G. Drews’ debut Don’t Let the Forest In and really enjoying their second novel Hazelthorn, I knew that I would want to read You Did Nothing Wrong. I got my copy through Book of the Month, and since I haven’t read it yet, I knew it would be the perfect choice for the “Read a Thriller or Horror Book” prompt. I love haunted house stories, and I think one written by C.G. Drews will be right up my alley!

A few Barnes and Noble trips ago, I stumbled upon She Made Herself a Monster by Anna Kovatcheva and the cover and description were so interesting to me that I bought it on the spot. I thought this would be a great choice for the “Read a New to You Author” prompt. I’m not the biggest vampire fiction person actually, but I’m really intrigued by this premise and I love anything that involves folklore, witchery and ghost stories. I’m also planning on doing a multi-format read for this one and am planning on listening to the audiobook while I read the physical copy.

Initially, I struggled finding a book for the “Read a Book with Pink on the Cover” prompt, because the majority of books I own with pink covers I’ve read. Then, I remembered This Story Might Save Your Life by Tiffany Crum and I got so excited! I’ve really been looking forward to reading this book; I think it’s something that I’ll enjoy so much, especially since I love podcast elements in books. When Summerween rolls around this might be the book that I start with.

This year the hardest prompt for me to fill was “Read a Book with Less than 250 Pages” a lot of the thriller/horror novellas that I have I’ve already read, and then a horror short story collection that I have is like 20 pages over. Then I remembered my copy of Selected Tales and Poems of Edgar Allan Poe. Now, the entire book comes in at 253 pages, which is just a little over, but I have already read one of the short stories in the collection, so without reading that one it would be under 250 pages, so I’m going to count that as a win! This edition is from LitJoy Crate and is so stunning and especially haunting, so it’ll be a perfect Summerween read!

I’d love to know if you’re participating in Summerween this year and if so, what are you reading? Let me know in the comments!

Until next time 💜
