Quarterly Stats: July – September

October 16, 2026

I truly feel like July, August and September flew by. Especially September. We’re already into October and soon it’ll be the holidays — the end of 2026 is suddenly on the horizon and I’m not fully sure how we got here.

This quarter saw some ups and downs when it comes to my reading, so let’s chat about it! If you wanna know all of my 3rd quarter stats, then keep reading!

If you’ve been here for a little bit then you know that I always like to start with my general stats, which I consider to be: books read, pages read, hours listened and new vs. rereads per month

In quarter 3 I read a total of 27 books. That breaks down to 11 books in July, 6 books in August, and 10 books in September. That is for sure lower than I had anticipated and hoped, but I went through a really bad reading slump in August after finishing our summer camp programs. It was kind of a miracle that I even got through 6 books that month. This reading slump has hit me pretty hard though and I’m still struggling with it. I’m not really reading in long sprints like I typically do, and I’ve felt a lot less focused lately while reading. I’m not really sure what’s going on, but I definitely would like to get out of this weird sort of reading limbo that I’m in because there are so many books that I want to read, but I’m having a hard time focusing while I am reading.

The other general stats break down like this:

July:

  • Pages Read: 2,877
  • Hours Listened: 6.86
  • New vs. Reread: 11 new / 0 rereads

August:

  • Pages Read: 1,767
  • Hours Listened: 2.2
  • New vs. Reread: 6 new / 0 rereads

September:

  • Pages Read: 2,238
  • Hours Listened: 14.1
  • New vs. Reread: 9 new / 1 reread

That makes 6,882 pages read and 23.16 hours listed in this third quarter.

Alright, now lets move onto some more stats. While last quarter was heavy on the plays, this quarter we’re back to predominantly novels, with novels taking up 81.5% (22) of my reads. Then, we see a big jump with 7.4% (2) graphic novels, and 3.7% (1) being represented by short stories, non-fiction, and novellas.

Now let’s talk about how I acquired the books that I read in this second quarter. 33.3% (9) were books that I bought this year, 22.2% (6) were library reads, 14.8% (4) were from Book of the Month, 11.1% (3) were books I already owned and ARCs, and 3.7% (1) were gifted and from Kindle Unlimited. Between books bought this year, books I already owned and BOTM books, 59.3% (16/27) of my reads in this third quarter were books on my shelves, which is what I’m always aiming for.

As for reading methods, 59.3% (16) were books I owned physically, 22.2% (6) were audiobooks and 18.5% (5) were ebooks.

I would say that my genre breakdown is fairly typical with what I’ve been reading this year. 18.5% (5) were mystery and horror, 14.8% (4) were fantasy, 11.1% (3) were romance, mythology, and thriller, and finally, 3.7% (1) were historical fiction, classic, science fiction and biography/memoir. Mystery still remains my top genre, so far for the year it’s my most read genre aside from plays. I’m also really glad that this year I’ve really started to find more fantasy that is working for me and am finding the genre a lot less intimidating than I have in the past!

Though I have been struggling to read as of late, the things I have been reading I have enjoyed. In quarter 3, all of my reads were between 3 star – 4.5 star reads which I would say is a pretty big success. 7.7% (2) reads were 3 stars, 34.6% (9) were 3.5 star reads, 38.5% (10) were 4 star reads, and 19.2% (5) were 4.5 star reads.

I had no new 5 star reads this quarter (I’ve still only got one new 5 star read for the whole year…), but Heartstopper, Vol. 6, Thoughts Be Bloody and She Haunts Me Still all were very high 4.5 star ratings and I definitely consider them highlights of not only the quarter but the year as well. I also didn’t read any of the books on my 26 in 2026 list (oops). I had started the audiobook of Parable of the Sower over the summer and while I was definitely intrigued by the story, I had to put it on pause because I was having a bit of a hard time with it mentally. I would love to pick it up again by the end of the year, but we’ll just have to wait and see.
