August did in fact slip away into a moment in time. What a month it’s been, let’s chat about it!

It was a very slow reading month for me. I hit an awful reading slump around the second week of August that lasted for basically the rest of the month. I was still reading pretty much every day, and mostly enjoying what I was reading, but I had a really difficult time reading more than a few chapters a sitting. I did however read 3 ARCs this month, which is great! Both Suffer a Witch: A Memoir and The Silent Appeal were released this month, but I did read them before their release dates and it felt good to knock a few more ARCs off of my list.
I did a massive 49 book unhaul this month. It was definitely a long time coming and it felt good to clear my shelves a bit. I also reorganized my shelves and am really happy with how one of my bookshelves is currently organized. I’m still trying to figure out one of them; do I want to keep it how it has been or try something new? but, for now, I’m happy with how things are and feel less stressed when I look at my bookshelves. I’ve also started the process of making a digital book inventory tracker that sorts my books by cover. I have a general boon inventory tracker that does note how many copies I own of each book, but I thought it would be fun to make a cover tracker to help me with reading challenges that have cover based prompts. Plus, we all know that I will find any excuse to make a spreadsheet for fun (I literally put that on my self care bingo for the year).
Books read this month:
- The Sirens by Emilia Hart (4 stars)
- Suffer a Witch: A Memoir by Joy McCullough (unrated)
- The Silent Appeal by Janice Hallett (4 stars)
- Thoughts Be Bloody by Auden Patrick (4 stars)
- Dark Sisters by Kristi DeMeester (4 stars)
- Anatomy of an Alibi by Ashley Elston (3 stars)
Blog posts and vlogs I loved this month:
- Dini posted her Pantone Birth Chart Palette Book Covers and her palette is so gorgeous!
- I loved Meg’s video where she did the hardest reading challenge on BookTube and I can’t lie, it kind of makes me want to do it as well!
My posts this month:

This month we wrapped up our 9 week summer camp program, and after another week + a day of work, I was able to take vacation time for the rest of the month and it was so incredibly needed. I honestly just felt like I was running on fumes the last few weeks of camp and I was really struggling with motivation and was having some not so great mental health days, and while I’m still feeling pretty weird at the moment, I’m glad I didn’t have to also work more while feeling this way.
I did so much cleaning in my room, it was kind of incredible. As I mentioned, I reorganized my bookshelves but I also cleaned out my closet, reorganized my dresser, reorganized my desk area (mostly, I still have one more section to do), got a new standing fan, reorganized my bedside cart, and started the process of putting up new curtains. My room feels so much more open now and I’m so happy about it. I still have more things that I want to do, including framing some more art prints and a few Playbills (the frames are on the way!) but I’m very happy with how things look right now.
I took my mom to another Bay FC match, this time we were playing the Houston Dash. It was a beautifully sunny (and very hot) day at the park. Our goal keeper made like 12 absolutely insane saves, including 2 back to back saves with her catching the ball between the knees. Bay scored in the 89th minute and won the match 1-0 which was huge because we really needed that win! We, as always, had a great day at the match. I also ran into one of my favorite players for Bay FC at a craft store a few days before the match which was so wild. We spoke for a little bit and took a photo together, she was so sweet and kind and it really made my day, I still can’t believe it happened!

I went to the movies a couple times this month! I went to see Spider-Man: Brand New Day with my sister and brother in law and loved it. Tom Holland has been my favorite Spider-Man since Homecoming came out, but this film really solidified that and showcased why he’s my favorite. The range of emotion was fantastic, and the way he emoted through his eyes alone was wonderfully done. I mean, there was no doubt that I was going to love a movie that had Tom Holland, Zendaya and Sadie Sink in it, but I’m really glad that I enjoyed it as much as I did!
My mom and I went to see the Six proshot together which was so much fun! I loved that before the proshot started, there was a little documentary with interviews with the OLC, Toby and Lucy, as well as clips from rehearsals, performances the London cast did, some shots of the OBC and international productions. As a person who has followed Six from very early on, it was really cool to see those things. The proshot itself was filmed wonderfully, I loved that they really did film it like a concert and my favorite part from a filmmaking standpoint was absolutely the scene before I Don’t Need Your Love. It was such a smart way to film the scene, I loved it. I can’t wait until it’s available to buy digitally because I’ll for sure watch it again.
While flipping stations for something to watch one day, I ended up watching some reruns of How I Met Your Mother and decided to rewatch the entire series for the first time since it ended in 2014. Much of it doesn’t stand up to a modern lens and the ending still pisses me off. It brought back a lot of teenage nostalgia as me and practically all of my friends watched it live and were obsessed with it, so it was fun to revisit the series. I also ended up rewatching Off Campus because one night when I couldn’t sleep I was scrolling on Instagram and almost all of the reels I saw were Off Campus related, so obviously I had to watch it again.
The Women’s Pro Baseball League started this month, and since the Bay has a team I obviously am rooting for them! I’ve only watched a few games in full — I’ve been having a hard time keeping up/remembering the schedule, but I do always check out the highlights, and I’m just so excited that there’s a professional women’s league again, I truly never thought that I’d see this happen.

Musically I wasn’t really listening to anything new this month. Sara Bareilles did release her new album Good Grief, which I am incredibly excited to listen to. However, as I know the album is grief centered and I have not been having the best mental health month, I know that for me to be able to listen and appreciate the album, I need to wait a little bit and listen to it when I’m in a better headspace and it won’t send me into a negative spiral.

And there we have it! I’m kind of glad to see August come to an end simply because I felt really out of it for the majority of this month and I’m really hoping to kick these weird feelings as we begin the “ber” months.
Let me know all the things about your August in the comments below!
Until next time 💜
