Let’s Talk: Reading Essentials

April 25, 2022

Hi, hello friends! I hope you’re all doing well and enjoying the month of April! The weather is getting colder here in Australia, and it’s making all of my reading instantly cozier. As I restock and rethink some of my essentials for peak reading satisfaction, I thought it would be super fun to share some with you today!

  1. Tea

Unsurprisingly, given the name of our humble blog, I love reading with a cup of tea. In fact, reading without one doesn’t seem to hit as hard. For those wondering, my tea of choice is English breakfast – specifically the PG Tips brand (with a splash of oat milk and two sugars, thank you very much), so I always make sure it’s stocked in the house.

  1. Warm Lightning

I don’t know about you, but warm lighting instantly feels cozier. There’s something about the soft glow it radiates that brings me so much joy. Now, my light source of choice is a salt lamp my mum got me for Christmas, but the same vibe can be met with fairy lights if you have them. In fact, I have some of those too! Honestly, just adds to the atmosphere.

  1. Blankets

Shocker, are you surprised to see this make an appearance? One of my weaknesses has to be warm blankets. I just love buying them, and I have a few I switch out in winter. In fact, one of my favourite blankets has to be my The Night Circus throw from Storiarts – it’s so cozy and it brings me so much joy to have my favourite book on a blanket! Though, you can’t go wrong with any warm blanket/throw!

  1. Silence

Yes, that’s right – I am a silent reader. If you’re someone who can read while listening to music with lyrics then I applaud you, because I physically cannot. Ambient noise is my personal preference if I feel like listening to something (specifically rain sounds), but more often than not I need silence to truly get absorbed into a book. I wish I could listen to songs alongside a book to really get the mood going, but I just haven’t been able to focus on reading while doing so. Regardless, I’ll keep trying and continue to read in silence until then!

  1. A Reading Companion

I know this one seems to go against what I said above, but having a reading companion is so much fun! Whether it be my Warmie, dog Dennis, or my best friend on FaceTime, company while reading always makes the experience a bit more fun. I love having my best friend on FaceTime while I read because we both get to witness each other’s genuine reactions to whatever we’re reading, especially if it’s a book one of us has read before! It just makes the experience a bit more exciting, and definitely makes me more keen to read!

And there we have it – five of my reading essentials. Let me know below what you thought of this list, and if you have any similar essentials!

I’m a big fan of being cozy under a blanket when I read, as well!

I wish the weather were getting colder and cozier here, I walked outside yesterday and basically was set on fire lol. I love warm lighting and setting the mood – I have fairly lights I tend to turn on when I curl up in bed to read. I also basically require silence or ambient noise when reading — I can’t listen to music or my brain will focus on that instead. Great post!
