Wrap Up: September 2021

September 30, 2021

Hi, hello lovely friends! As the weather goes warmer or colder depending on where you’re at in the world, another month has come to an end. This month was an exciting one for us, as it marked our first year anniversary of blogging (yay!) and our first month of being entirely self hosted (double yay!). It was also a very exciting reading month for us, as all three of us here at teatimelit were participating in the theatreaton! We hope you had a lovely month, and keep reading to see what we read!

This month Caitlyn read 35 books, Cossette read 28 books, and Mary read 7 books.

This truly has been a fantastic reading month for me. I ended up reading a total of 35 books, which I think is the most I’ve ever read in a single month. I’m particularly proud of completing all 21 prompts for the Theatreathon – my competitive nature definitely influenced my reading this month! Picking favorite books for this month is kind of tricky because I read so many that I loved! I loved my rereads of If We Were Villains, Little Women, and Emma, three of my all time favorite books. And I discovered some new favorites in Michelle Quach’s Not Here to Be Liked, and Holly Jackson’s As Good As Dead. I also loved Hang the Moon by Alexandria Bellefleur, What Once Was Mine by Liz Braswell, and Fresh by Margot Wood. I could add more to the list because I read so many great ones, but I’ll stop there!

Posts I Loved Reading:

  • Another book that I really enjoyed this month was Marisa Kanter’s As If On Cue! With it being centered around theatre and fun prank wars, how could I not? Also rivals to lovers! We LOVE to see it! My best friend Helena read it before I did and her review made me SO excited for it.
  • I am always seeking out new books by Filipino authors, so I was so excited to see Kate’s post of 8 Queer Books by Filipino Authors! So many of these books sound amazing and I’m excited to add some to my TBR!

  • I have been eagerly awaiting the finale of The Gilded Wolves series, The Bronzed Beasts and now that it’s out I’m hoping to get to it in October. Robin’s review made me so so excited and I can’t wait to find out how the series ends!
  • We all know how much I love dark academia, and I loved Jayati’s post on Dark Academia Books to read this Fall! While I’ve read a few of these already, there are a couple books on this list that I’ve been meaning to get to, and I think this fall will be the perfect time to read them!

I’ve definitely slowed down a bit in terms of reading — no more 40+ reading months (which is honestly, for the better)! Instead, I’ve been spending some time watching more films, and playing Animal Crossing! This month was a really good reading month for me, and I even successfully completed a couple of buddy reads. I also read a couple new books for theatreathon, and completed all the prompts! Some new books I absolutely adored this month were A Million Junes by Emily Henry, and Not Here to Be Liked by Michelle Quach.

  • Not Here to be Liked: Goodreads | TheStoryGraph | Bookshop | IndieBound

Posts I Loved Reading:

  • I absolutely loved 24hryabookblog’s Down Comes the Night blog essay — anyone who knows me knows how much I adore Down Comes the Night, and that I’ve never gotten out of my English-class-analysis phase. More of these essays, please!
  • Lia’s A Clash of Steel review and playlist were so lovely! I really enjoyed A Clash of Steel when I read it, and the playlist fit it so perfectly. When I eventually reread A Clash of Steel, I know I’ll have to go back to this playlist to set the mood!
  • One of my dear friends is back to blogging, and I’m so glad! I’m so proud of Bella, and loved reading their life updates, as well as their theatreathon tbr!
  • Trin’s review and interview of Not Here to be Liked was so lovely to read, and highlights so many things that I loved about the book! I’m so excited to reread Not Here to be Liked soon.
  • I’ve heard that For All Time will wreck me, and so it’s pretty high up on my TBR! Reading Saniya’s review has me even more excited — and scared — for when I eventually do get around to it!

What started off as a bad month for me ended up being a very successful one! Despite being swamped with uni, work, and other commitments, I managed to squeeze in seven books this month! Seven! My favourite of the month has to be Six Crimson Cranes by Elizabeth Lim, and I am anxiously waiting for book two. It was a wonderful fantasy, with interesting plot points and lush worldbuilding – I absolutely adored it. Cossette actually wrote a full review of it back in July, which you can find here. September reunited me with my love of audiobooks, a love that had been dormant for the whole year so far. I listened to Amelia Unabridged by Ashley Shumacker and absolutely adored it – I cried about three times despite it not being very sad! It had beautiful imagery, a lovely plot, and wonderful friendships throughout the book. It was hard not to consume it in one sitting. The production value was very high, which made it a great listen. Cossette actually reviewed this one back in February, so you can read her full review here.
