Happy 2021! We hope this has been a good reading month for you, and a good start to your year, despite everything that’s going on in the world. This month, Caitlyn read 15 books, Cossette read 17 books, and Mary read 15 books.
January also marked the official launch of teatimereads, where we read These Violent Delights, and we’re extremely excited to see what’s next in store for teatimereads. For more information about our book club, click here!
January turned out to be a pretty solid reading month for me! I had hit a bit of a slump in the middle of the month, but ended up finishing 14 books. All 14 books I read this month ended up being 4-5 star reads, so picking my favorites is a bit difficult. One of my goals for the year is to read 1-2 non-fiction books a month, so I had started off my reading year with Bonnie and Clyde: The Making of a Legend as I find the story of Bonnie and Clyde endlessly fascinating. When it comes to ARCs, I got to three this month and absolutely loved all of them. Footnotes: The Black Artists Who Rewrote the Rules of the Great White Way is a must read for all theatre fans, Dial A for Aunties was absolutely hilarious, I couldn’t put it down and Fat Chance, Charlie Vega was so moving and a book I wish I had when I was a teenager. Two of my other favorites were Angie Thomas’ Concrete Rose and Rachel Lynn Solomon’s The Ex-Talk which I stayed up all night to read. I loved rereading These Violent Delights for teatimereads this month as well, and am excited for our February pick, A Cuban Girl’s Guide to Tea and Tomorrow. Besides that, I’m also planning on getting through a few more ARCs in February.

Posts I Loved Reading:
- My best friend Helena revamped her blog this month, and I’ve been loving all of her posts! I especially love her book and food pairing posts, and her post of Chloe Gong’s These Violent Delights is one of my favorites!
- I loved Ahaana’s review of Emma Lord’s You Have a Match!
- Quinn’s review of The Girls I’ve Been has made me even more excited to read this new YA thriller!
Overall, January was a slower reading month for me. We experienced a loss in the family in the middle of the month, which made it really difficult for me to even think about picking up a book. My reading habits were all over the place this month; two of my reads were kidlit — I Dreamed of Popo and Eyes that Kiss in the Corners, both of which made me incredibly emotional, mixed in with a couple of ARCs, rereads, and a new release! I started out January with rereading Red, White & Royal Blue (I often find it anxiety-inducing to start the year with a new read, so I figured I’d play it safe by rereading an old favorite) and These Violent Delights for teatimereads. In terms of ARCs I adored, both Amelia Unabridged and You’ve Reached Sam really hit home for me. I also really enjoyed my Malibu Rising buddy read with Quinn and Celina, Honey Girl by Morgan Rogers, and The Ex-Talk by Rachel Lynn Solomon. Next month, I’m excited to read a couple of books on my backlist, and to make more of a dent in my pile of ARCs!

Posts I Loved Reading:
- I’ve been counting down the days till A Pho Love Story is released, and Trin’s ARC Review of A Pho Love Story had me even more excited for this photastic tale.
- Bertie’s discussion of adult books being mislabeled as YA was an incredibly insightful read!
- An incredibly warm welcome to Halla, who I’ve been pestering to join the blogging community for a while! Halla created a list of underrated (actually underrated) books by authors of color, and I’ve already gone through and added a ton of them to my TBR.
- Quinn’s 2020 reading wrap up with statistics had my entire heart!
- I’ve always been curious about what makes people add books to their TBR, and loved Katie’s post on what makes her add books to her TBR!
My goodness, what a month! I’ve done a lot of reading this month, which is almost unheard of for me. I mean, 14 books? This must be some form of record for me! I’ve read a lot of good books this month, so narrowing it down to just a few of my favourites is going to be hard. To start with, I was very very lucky enough to be able to read One Last Stop by Casey McQuiston. This book was wonderful! I promise you it won’t disappoint, it was such a wonderful read and a great way to kick off my 2021 reading year. I also read A Cuban Girl’s Guide to Tea and Tomorrow, which is our February teatimereads pick! I truly adore this book, and I would be as bold as to say it was my favourite of the month! It was just such a special book to read, and I can’t wait to buy a physical copy for my shelves. I’m so so excited for February – it’s stepping up to be another good reading month for me!
