hi friends! i can’t believe march is already over — i know i said last month that march was going to be the month where i’d finally get a chance to catch up on all my arcs, gifted reads, and everything, but instead all i’ve done is get even more immersed into the world of hockey (i’ve been trying to pack as many games in this month before hockey season is over), sucked into some other life things, and honestly, just neglected reading.
this month, i read nine books. most of this month was a pretty mediocre reading month in terms of enjoyment, aside from my les misérables reread. here’s a list of everything i read this month:
- happy medium by sarah adler (arc)
- a darker shade of magic by v.e. schwab (audiobook)
- expiration dates by rebecca serle (arc)
- divine rivals by rebecca ross (book club)
- the siren by katherine st. john (gifted)
- light in gaza edited by jehad abusalim
- how to end a love story by yulin kuang (arc) // reviewed here
- rising from the deep: the seattle kraken, a tenacious push for expansion, and the emerald city’s sports revival by geoff baker
- les miserables by victor hugo (reread)
i’ll be out of town next month for the first two weeks of april, and so i’m hoping to finally work on my the starless sea annotations, which i pick up, read two pages of, and then put down every few weeks. and i’ve got a couple arcs loaded onto my ipad that i’m hoping to read — especially the rest of my spring-release arcs (racquel marie’s this is me trying, stacey lee’s kill her twice, carley summer’s this summer will be different, kevin kwan’s lies and weddings, and l.m. chilton’s swiped). i also think i’m going to start reading the odyssey soon — i’ve really enjoyed having a longer book on the go, and i think the odyssey will be my summer book!
i’ve been listening to gretta ray’s positive spin+ a lot lately, the new hozier ep, unheard, olivia rodrigo’s guts (spilled) and holly humberstone’s work in progress ep a lot as of late. the new bleachers album is also something i’ve been listening to quite a bit, specifically “call me after midnight”, and “modern girl”. i think the rest of this album will grow on me eventually, but for now, i haven’t been able to stop listening to those two tracks! aside from that, i’ve also been looping ariana grande’s we can’t be friends, the interstellar score, and my musicals playlist. specifically, i’ve been listening to a lot of catch me if you can, les misérables, a gentleman’s guide to love and murder, once — and very much reminiscing on the state of theater in the 2010’s.
this month, i’ve been spending as much time as i can at the rink trying to squeeze in as much in-person hockey as i can before hockey season’s over, especially since we’re not making it to playoffs (a terrible sentence for me to type out). i’ll be bandwagoning the bruins, especially for former kraken morgan geekie.
other things i’ve been loving lately:
- saying “2 minute minor for [blank]” and “trade consideration”: for example, i’ll say “two minute minor for unnecessary apology” to my best friend as a joke, or “trade consideration: i do [x] and in exchange you get [x]”. i picked both of these up from watching (or listening to) one too many hockey games, podcasts, broadcasts, you name it.
- being crafty: i think i touched on getting back into bracelet-making last month! i’ve still been making a lot of bracelets for friends and for every occasion in my life (hockey games, concerts, etc.) but, i’ve also really been enjoying my embroidery projects (i’ve been really into embroidering tote bags), and making spreads in my hobonichi lately.
- chicken tenders + soft serve ice cream: i think this is a little bit more due to superstition, rather than actually enjoying eating a copious amount of soft-serve ice cream and chicken tenders, but every time i switch up what i eat at a hockey game, we lose.
posts i loved reading:
- i think pluckedfromthestacks’ ten movies that would’ve made great novels is such a neat idea!
- 24hryabookblog‘s discussion about ya book adaptations was so lovely and reminded me of how many adaptations i’m excited about — particularly the a cuban girl’s guide to tea and tomorrow one, and the little thieves one!
- i still haven’t read i hope this doesn’t find you but i loved reading bookedtillmidnight’s review of it!
