hi, hello, sweet friends! happy halloween — can you believe october is already over? i can’t! i hope y’all are having a wonderful day, and have a fun + safe halloween if you do celebrate it! this month flew by, and i’m so so excited for november, despite it getting colder and colder here. there’s lots to chat about, so grab a warm drink, get cozy, and let’s chat!
october started out with a lot of doctor’s appointments and health shenanigans, but ended with a lot of fun! as y’all may know, i’ve really gotten into going to concerts this year; there’s nothing like live music, and i’ve really liked renee rapp’s vocals since her broadway days. i had a total blast at her concert — and also just loved that she had some taylor songs on her preshow setlist — and got to meet up with some friends i met at lollapalooza. another highlight of this month was that i got to relive my eras tour by going to the movies! i went once with my friend (who i’m going to eras with next year with), and then twice with my mom (she asked to go see it a second time), and it made me even more excited to go to eras again next year. i also took another quick day trip to vancouver (gotta get my little snacks) which is my last trip up to canada until next year, most likely!
the biggest highlight of my month was actually going to a kraken game! it’s funny, because if you told me at the beginning of the year that i’d love hockey this much, i would’ve laughed in your face but here i am, going to hockey games and even watching them on espn when i’m free.
all this to say, i didn’t have a whole lot of time for reading this month! i ended up reading 14 books, with my favorites being the goodbye cat by hiro arikawa, and the appeal by janice hallett.
here’s a full list of what i read in the last month:
- the moth keeper by kay o’neill (★★★★☆)
- a fragile enchantment by allison saft (ARC; ★★★★☆)
- just kids by patti smith (audiobook)
- cult classic by sloane crosley (audiobook; ★★★★☆)
- the atlas paradox by olivie blake (audiobook; ★★★★☆)
- the goodbye cat by hiro arikawa (gifted; ★★★★★)
- the appeal by janice hallett ( ★★★★☆)
- the twyford code by janice hallett ( ★★★★☆)
- wildfire by hannah grace (★★☆☆☆)
- the roaring by t. katarina tayler (★★☆☆☆)
- curious tides by pascale lacelle (audiobook; ★★★★☆)
- the tempest by william shakespeare (audiobook; ★★★★☆)
- murder on the orient express by agatha christie (audiobook; ★★★★☆)
- canadian boyfriend by jenny holiday (ARC; ★★☆☆☆)
i’ve got a lot to look forward to next month: i’m going to boston to visit a close friend, and am going to be reunited with some other friends, and i just couldn’t be more excited! i’m not sure how much reading i’ll be able to get done as a result, but am definitely hoping to prioritize the night circus by erin morgenstern, which i’m rereading for traveling annotated book club, and maybe an arc or two!
this month, i’ve mostly been listening to maisie peters’ the good witch deluxe, and holly humberstone’s paint my bedroom black! i’ve also been listening to griff’s vert1go vol. 1, gretta ray’s positive spin, and grace enger’s well here we are (extended ep)!
in case you’ve missed it, here are some posts i wrote this month:
- Book Recs Based on Your Favorite Song From 1989
- Review: The Goodbye Cat by Hiro Arikawa (Translated By: Philip Gabriel)
- ARC Review: A Fragile Enchantment by Allison Saft
- September 2023 Wrap Up // A Letter From Coco
and some posts i wanted to highlight:
- some bookish influencers have called for a St. Martin’s Press boycott; you can find out more about it here.
- i loved 24hryabookblog’s reading blog! i’ve never seen a post style like this, and i thought it was so fun! it was so cozy, and definitely something i want to try in the future.
- i thought murder and mamon was such a fun read, and it was so nice to read oddandbookish’s review of it!
- i want to read more middle grade, and i loved ali stoker in oklahoma, so obviously i loved reading bubblingupwithhelena’s review of cut loose!
- lastpagess’s review of iris kelly doesn’t date was so beautifully written, and has me itching to reread the series!
