And suddenly, we’re through 2 quarters of 2025 and I feel absolutely ancient, but whatever, it’s fine. What does come with the end of another quarter, are my quarterly stats and we all know that I love stats!
So, let’s chat about my reading stats for April, May, and June!

We’ll start with the basic stats — books read per month, pages read per month, hours listened per month and new reads vs. rereads per month.
Throughout April, May, and June, I read a total of 66 books, which equals out to: 10 books in April, 19 books in May, and 37 books in June. Can you tell which month it was that I did a readathon that meant reading 30 plays? 🤣
Of my 66 reads for this quarter, 60 reads were new to me and I had 6 rereads. In this quarter I reread The Hunger Games (I need to get back to my series reread), started my series reread of The Summer I Turned Pretty before season 3 airs this month — I reread the first two books, The Summer I Turned Pretty and It’s Not Summer Without You — and reread 2 plays, The Crucible and Our Town, and 1 musical, Next to Normal.
In April I read 2,105 pages and listened to 14.67 hours of audiobooks, in May I read 3,218 pages and listened to 22.35 hours of audiobooks, and in June I read 4,807 pages and listened to 11.32 hours of audiobooks. Which totals to 10,130 pages read and 48.34 hours listened across April, May, and June.

Most of the time, my book format distribution is like 95% novels, 5% something else, but this quarter was much more balanced because of my 30 plays in 30 days readathon. For the second quarter of the year, I ended up reading 32 novels, 31 plays, 2 novellas and 1 musical.
Now, let’s talk about how I got the books that I read. 39 reads were from my owned tbr, 20 were from the library, 4 were ARCs, 2 were from Kindle Unlimited, and 1 was on Spotify. This quarter really was amazing for knocking books off of my owned tbr, even with the number of books that I bought across the quarter (we’re not talking about that, shhhhhh). My goal is to get my owned tbr down to 100 unread books by the end of the year. Right now, I’m at 133 unread books owned, and even though I know I’ll be buying more books before the year is out, I know that if I keep this up I’ll be able to do so!
As for the reading method, I would say that it was pretty typical this quarter. 34 reads were physical, 18 were ebooks, 12 were audiobooks, and 2 were multiple formats (physical and audio).

Next, let’s talk about genres! The distribution of this one is truly wild with 66 books read, so prepare yourselves — okay, it’s not that bad, but it is a lot of genres. The genre distribution is as follows: 17 historical function, 16 mystery, 11 contemporary, 7 romance, 3 horror, 2 dystopia, 2 fantasy, 2 thriller, 1 musical, 1 classic, 1 science fiction, 1 mythology, 1 literary fiction, and 1 non fiction.
Like I said, it’s a lot of genres. Typically, historical fiction would not be my top genre, but a lot of the plays that I read were historical fiction, so there you go. While I obviously have my favorite genres and gravitate towards them, I am glad that I read a wider variety of genres over the last 3 months. I also think that I’ve finally started to figure out what kind of science fiction/dystopia I like in adult fiction, so maybe I’ll now be able to explore those genres a bit more!
Lastly, for the general stats section, let’s talk star ratings! Across the last 3 months the star ratings shook out like this
- 1 star: 1
- 2.5 star: 3
- 3 star: 3
- 3.5 star: 24
- 4 star: 18
- 4.5 star: 12
- 5 star: 5
I mean, that’s not a horrible distribution! I’m glad to see the really low ratings only be 4 of my reads. I’m not surprised that 3.5 has the most ratings. Those ratings equal out to a 3.83 average rating for the second quarter. I would say that anything above a 3.5 rating across an entire quarter is pretty good!

I may have read a lot this quarter, but I didn’t read a lot from my 25 in 2025 list this time around. The books I read from the list were
- This Book Will Bury Me
- How To Solve Your Own Murder
- Smile and Be a Villain
I may have only gotten to 3, but 3 books is better than none! My favorite of the three was for sure Smile and Be a Villain – the sequel, The Rest is Silence, comes out this month and I can’t wait to read it! I really enjoyed How To Solve Your Own Murder and am hoping to read the next book, How To Seal Your Own Fate at some point this month. This Book Will Bury Me was one of the ones that I had in my “authors I’m giving a second chance” section, and I’m glad I did! I liked this book much more than In My Dreams I Hold a Knife and I’m glad I gave it a shot.
I’m hoping to get through more books on the list in this quarter since I own the majority of them, and have ARCs of a few.

This quarter was looking a little bleak on the new 5 star reads front when I went through both April and May without any new 5 stars, but then June said “Girl, don’t worry, I got you”.
In June I ended up having 3 new 5 star reads. Two were plays, John Proctor is the Villain by Kimberly Belflower (my new favorite play) and The Book of Will by Lauren Gunderson, and one novel, Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel.
There are some books coming out in the later half of 2025 that I think are going to be 5 stars (some of them I have ARCs for) so I’m hoping that next quarter I’ll be able to report that I’ve got a lot of 5 stars!

In case you missed it, here’s a list of all the posts I made from April through June. As you can see, it was a slow quarter on the blog, but I hope to change that in the third quarter!

Wow, what a quarter it was! I’m really happy with how my reading year is unfolding, and I can’t wait to see what the rest of the year has in store for me!
How many books did you read this quarter? What were your favorites? Tell me all the things in the comments!
Until next time 💜
