Mini Reviews: Reading Library Personal Recommendations

Am I currently getting many of my post ideas from BookTubers? Yes, I am, you know why? Because they have fantastic ideas and I follow some amazing BookTubers. So, today’s blog post is inspired by Meg from megwithbooks and Riley from RileyMarie — they’re not the only BookTubers to do this trend, but they’re two that I’ve recently seen do this/something like this and inspired me to try it myself. 

I’ve never gotten personalized recommendations from anyone aside from friends who know my reading taste well (aka Cossette and Helena, let’s be real), so I’m really curious to see what the librarian recommends and if I’ll like the books!

Meg and Riley both used TBR (Tailored Book Recommendations) and Riley also got personal recommendations from the library. I considered using TBR for this post in addition to the librarian recs, but Meg and Riley didn’t have a fantastic time with the books they were recommended from TBR, so I decided to stick with just the library recommendations. Especially because I love utilizing the library — for real, we are so lucky to have libraries, and if you’re able to I highly highly recommend donating to and supporting your local library.

Let’s Talk: Summer TBR

Alexa, play What Time is It from High School Musical 2 because it’s my favorite time of year, summer! I’ve always loved the summer; when I was a kid I used to go to the beach every Wednesday with my friends, and so many of my favorite memories are from the summertime. 

While my summers have gotten busier (and more stressful) the older I’ve gotten, my love for the season has never changed. This summer, and June especially, is going to be super busy for me, and while I don’t typically do monthly TBRs, I do like setting up seasonal TBRs from time to time, so I thought it would be fun to share with y’all some books I’ve looking forward to reading over the summer!

Review: The Ballad of Darcy & Russell + Morgan Matson Book Tour

Darcy believes in love at first sight. Even though it’s never happened to her, she’s spent her whole life waiting for that magical moment, hoping that when she meets the right guy, everything will fall into place perfectly.

Blog Tour & Review: The Girl in Question by Tess Sharpe

High school is over, but Nora O’Malley’s life isn’t, which is weird now that her murderous stepdad Raymond is free.

Determined to enjoy summer before her (possibly) imminent demise, Nora plans a ten day backpacking trip with Iris and Wes. Her plans hit a snag when Wes’s girlfriend tags along. Amanda is nice, so it’s not a huge issue—until she gets taken. Or rather, mistaken…for Nora. All because of a borrowed flannel.

Now Raymond has a hostage. Nora has no leverage. Iris has a spear and Wes is building boobytraps. It’ll take all of their skills to make it out of the forest alive.

Mini Reviews: Books Read During My 24 Hour Reading Challenge

Hello friends! Something I’ve seen a few BookTubers do recently is a 24 hour reading challenge and I thought it sounded like fun. We usually think in terms of how many books we can read in a week or a month, but rarely do we think about how many books we get to in 24 hours (at least I don’t).

I’ve seen this done a couple ways. Kayla from BooksandLala stayed up for a full 24 hours whereas Olivia from oliviareadsalatte had a timer running whenever she was reading until she completed 24 hours. When I decided that I wanted to do the 24 hour reading challenge, I went back and forth on which method I wanted to use and ultimately decided that I’d go with the timer method. Not that I couldn’t do Kayla’s method and stay up for a full 24 hours, but my sleep schedule has been all over the place lately and I’ve been trying to fix it, so I don’t think that’s the best idea for me right now, so, the timing method it is!

I’ll be structuring this post a little differently than I do my typical mini reviews, and focusing on splitting this post into days as opposed to by book. Making this post a little more like a Let’s Talk and Mini Review post combined! So, get comfy and cozy and let’s talk about the books that I read during this 24 hour challenge.

ARC Review: Twelfth Knight by Alexene Farol Fullmuth

Viola Reyes is annoyed.

Mini Reviews: Plays Inspired by Shakespeare/Shakespeare Retellings

Y’all knew I couldn’t let April pass without some sort of Shakespeare related post! As I do every April, I had a lot of Shakespeare related reads on my TBR, and something I’ve wanted to do for a long time is read plays that are either Shakespeare retellings or inspired by Shakespeare.

I ended up reading 4 plays this week, and I thought it was really interesting to see how different playwrights interpreted and adapted Shakespeare’s works. While I didn’t get to as many plays as I was hoping to this week, I did finally read some that I’ve been meaning to read for a while, which I’m definitely happy about!
