willow: a book with a character you can’t help but fall in love with:
- Caitlyn: Leo from You Have a Match by Emma Lord. I just adore him and I am ALWAYS here for Filipino love interests!
- Cossette: Jane Su from Casey McQuiston’s One Last Stop is definitely one of my literary crushes. Enough said.
- Mary: Laurie from Little Women. I’m highkey in love with him.
champagne problems: a book with a broken relationship
- Caitlyn: The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid. Man, that book broke me.
- Cossette: Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet by Jamie Ford. This one isn’t centered around romance, but more so around family, but it was the first book that came to mind for this prompt.
- Mary: Admittedly, I can’t seem to think of one at the moment I’m sorry!
gold rush: a book you love with all your heart
- Caitlyn: Little Women by Louisa May Alcott. That book was such a part of my childhood. I feel so connected to all the March sisters, but especially Jo and Amy. The book means so much to me, it’s one of my comfort reads. I could read it over and over again.
- Cossette: Red, White and Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston! It just has such a special place in my heart.
- Mary: The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern! It’s my all time favourite book!
tis the damn season: a book in which the character reconnects with their family/hometown
- Caitlyn: The Unexpected Everything by Morgan Matson. I love how Andie reconnects with her father and how their relationship changes and progresses throughout the book.
- Cossette: Rent a Boyfriend by Gloria Chao! This was a wonderfully sweet read, and you can check out my review HERE.
- Mary: The Last Story of Mina Lee by Nancy Jooyoun Kim! What a wonderful, wonderful story.
tolerate it: a book with a suffering relationship
- Caitlyn: If We Were Villains by M.L. Rio. They all suffer.
- Cossette: Daisy Jones and the Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid
- Mary: Aurora Burning by Jay Kristoff and Amie Kaufman!
no body no crime: a book about murder
- Caitlyn: Lies Like Poison by Chelsea Pitcher. I love stories with unreliable narrators and this book had them in spades. A very well done mystery/thriller.
- Cossette: If We Were Villains by MJ Rio. (Sorry, Cait!)
- Mary: sadie! You can find the trigger warnings for this book here
happiness: a book that’s an old favorite, but you just can’t relate to anymore
- Caitlyn: I actually don’t know? I’ve been trying to figure this out and I just can’t think of anything!
- Cossette: I keep racking my brain for this, but I simply can’t think of anything!
- Mary: Like the others, I have absolutely no clue!
dorothea: a book featuring old (or strong) friendships
- Caitlyn: Red, White and Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston. I’m obsessed with the friendship between Alex, June and Nora.
- Cossette: Cemetery Boys by Aiden Thomas – Yadriel and Maritza’s friendship just makes my heart warm.
- Mary: The Aurora Cycle! One of the best aspects of this book is the friendship!
coney island: a book that made you cry / completely destroyed you
- Caitlyn: There are many books that have made me cry and have broken me, most recently would be These Violent Delights by Chloe Gong. THAT ENDING I AM STILL OVERWHELMED! You can view my review here.
- Cossette: A book that made me sob was Amelia Unabridged by Ashley Schumacer. I can’t wait to post my review for this!
- Mary: Admittedly, I cried at the end of The Starless Sea – not because it’s sad, but because it was over.
ivy: a book that was an unexpected favorite
- Caitlyn: Turning Pointe: How a New Generation of Dancers Is Saving Ballet from Itself by Chloe Angyal. I got an arc of it from NetGalley and I devoured it. It was absolutely incredible
- Cossette: Blazewrath Games by Amparo Ortiz!
- Mary: Little Women! I know I’ve already given this book to another question, but I didn’t expect to love it as much as I did.
cowboy like me: a book about thieves or criminals
- Caitlyn: If We Were Villains by M.L. Rio. “You can justify anything if you do it poetically enough”
- Cossette: Descendant of the Crane by Joan He
- Mary: Ace of Shades by Amanda Foody! Sadly very underrated and needs more love.
long story short: a book that made up your childhood
- Caitlyn: The Nancy Drew Series! I loved the Nancy Drew series as a kid and read them constantly. That’s probably where my love of mysteries stems from.
- Cossette: The Clique. Kuhlaire might be related to why my personal handles are kuhset.
- Mary: Mine is the typical Harry Potter, but I don’t really claim it as an adult!
marjorie: a book with a moving message
- Caitlyn: Les Miserables – reading this book really changed my perspective on life and that way that I treat others. I’m glad that I read it when I did, it definitely made an impact on me through my teen years and those lessons that I learned I have carried into adulthood.
- Cossette: Loveboat, Taipei – I really wish I’d had this book when I was younger.
- Mary: Rent a Boyfriend! I think about this book a lot, I’m so glad Coco got me to read it!
closure: a series in which you NEED the next book
- Caitlyn: These Violent Delights by Chloe Gong. Upon finishing the book the first words out of my mouth was just “Wow”, followed by “I need the next book now!”
- Cossette: Legendborn! I’m INCREDIBLY excited for the second Legendborn book, and to see what’s next in store for Bree, Sel and Nick.
- Mary: Where Dreams Descend!! Goodness me that ending.
evermore: the perfect conclusion to an extremely long (but worth it) series
- Caitlyn: Three Dark Crowns! I found the series so interesting! The world was very lush and detailed. I really enjoyed it and should reread it soon!
- Cossette: Check, Please! by Ngozi Ukazu isn’t that long, but as someone who has been following the webcomic since Bitty’s Year 1, it’s definitely felt like a long time coming. The ending was absolutely perfect, and I cannot wait to see what Ngozi does next.
- Mary: Every Heart a Doorway! I know this series isn’t technically finished yet, but it’s definitely worth it!
