happy almost-end-of april, dear friends, and happy happy place release date to all who celebrate 💌 i hope you’ve had a wonderful april so far! and as is the norm, i get a little rambly and chatty, so grab a cup of tea or coffee or whatever your preferred beverage is, and get cozy! 🧸
i’ve had a really busy april so far, and as a result, i’ve only read 16 books this month! maybe i’ll get a sudden burst of energy to read between now and the end of the month, but it’s not looking very likely right now. unsurprisingly, my most enjoyable read of this month was my reread of emily henry’s book lovers, but i also really loved reading heavy vinyl — it’s the cutest graphic novel, and my friend jamie recommended it to me!
here’s a list of books i read this month + what i rated them:
- spoiler alert by olivia dade (★★☆☆☆)
- all the feels by olivia dade (★★☆☆☆)
- ship wrecked by olivia dade (★★☆☆☆)
- float plan by trish doller (★★★★☆)
- yellowface by r.f. kuang
- the ex hex by erin sterling (★★☆☆☆)
- the kiss curse by erin sterling (★★★☆☆)
- siren queen by nghi vo (audiobook; ★★★☆☆)
- chloe and the kaishao boys by mae coyiuto (reread; ★★★★★)

i’d like to say that i’ve got a lot of big plans for may, and what i’ll be reading then, but in all honesty, i think i’ll be reading even less books in may than i did this month, and that’s okay. i didn’t really prioritize the annotation projects i started this month, so i think i’ll just try to make more headway on those and then also get through some arcs that i’ve let pile up! i’ll be traveling next month, so i’ve got that to look forward to as well!
i’m often drawn to songwriters who are also vivid storytellers, and i think that really sums up my music taste in a nutshell — taylor swift, the 1975, holly humberstone, gracie abrams, maisie peters, sabrina carpenter, among others! i’ve also been listening to a lot of the japanese house (i’m so excited for their new album), clairo, cate canning, phoebe bridgers, and boygenius. i saw sabrina carpenter earlier this month, so it’s no surprise that she’s one of my most listened to artists this month according to airbuds — she’s such a wonderful performer, with an incredible stage presence. my friend and i ended up fourth row from barricade, and it was such a lovely night! i also saw eleri ward in concert — she does indie folk covers of stephen sondheim, and that was also quite fun.
as i previously mentioned, i’ll be traveling at the end of may, so my may wrap up might be a little bit delayed!
in case you’ve missed it, here are some posts i wrote this month:
and some posts i loved reading:
- kelly andrews’ guest post, deaf girls, dead boys, and dark secrets, on fannaforbooks’ blog! i found the whispering dark to be such a lyrical and atmospheric read, and am so excited for andrews’ next book!
- robin’s review of happy place! i really enjoyed happy place, and i love robin!
- helena’s review of not here to stay friends! reading ARCs can be such an isolating experience, because there aren’t a lot of people to talk with so it was so nice reading helena’s review!
- my dear friend cat reviewed one of my favorite books — the very secret society of irregular witches!
hope you’re all doing well and staying safe!
Cat
