hello, loves! 💌 i feel like i do all my writing on some sort of moving transportation; last month, i wrote this wrap up in the notes app on my phone while on a plane home, today, i’m writing this while on a bus heading home from seattle, where i spent the day with a friend browsing bookstores + record stores.
february is always such an odd month for me — it’s shorter & time moves so much faster. this month, i read 22 books. i’d continued on my weird creative/reading slump at the beginning of the month, but due to some health issues + sleeping issues, i ended up binge reading a ton of books near the end of the month, regardless, i found some new favorites this month, such as: conversations on love by natasha lunn, half a soul by olivia atwater, and how to be perfect: the correct answer to every moral question by michael schur.
here’s a list of books i read this month + what i rated them:
- the roommate by rosie danan (★★☆☆☆)
- wuthering heights by emily brontë (book club pick; ★★★★☆)
- the nanny by lana ferguson (ARC; ★★☆☆☆)
- the writing retreat by julia bartz (ARC; ★★☆☆☆)
- exes and o’s by amy lea (★★★☆☆)
- not here to stay friends by kaitlyn hill (ARC; ★★★★☆)
- chloe and the kaishao boys by mae coyiuto (ARC; ★★★★☆)
- isha, unscripted by sajni patel (gifted; ★★☆☆☆)
- conversations on love by natasha lunn (★★★★★)
- meet me at the lake by carley fortune (ARC; ★★★★☆)
- emily wilde’s encyclopedia of faeries by heather fawcett (★★★☆☆)
- where echoes die by courtney gould (ARC; ★★★☆☆)
- vintage contemporaries by dan kois (gifted; ★★☆☆☆)
- how to be perfect: the correct answer to every moral question by michael schur (audiobook; ★★★★★)
- half a soul by olivia atwater (★★★★★)
- ten thousand stitches by olivia atwater (★★★★☆)
- longshadow by olivia atwater (★★★★★)
- between the world and me by ta-nehisi coates (audiobook; ★★★★★)
- infamous by lex croucher (ARC; ★★☆☆☆)
- the lord sorcier by olivia atwater (★★★★☆)
- the latch key by olivia atwater (★★★★★)
- made of stars by jenna voris (ARC; ★★★★☆)
i’m currently in the middle of a couple reads as well —
- alone with you in the ether by olivie blake: i didn’t mean to reread alone with you in the ether so soon, but i was talking about it with a friend and i just could not resist. this book is just so special to me.
- how to read now: essays by elaine castillo: i started this back in january, and have been slowly reading an essay each weekend! i’m hoping to actually finish it in march, but we’ll see!
- les miserables by victor hugo: another book that i’m rereading and annotating! this one will probably be on here for a good couple of months, so get familiar with seeing it on here.
- strange the dreamer by laini taylor: i was supposed to read this back in january, but i ended up in the worst fantasy slump of my life, so it’s been on hold for now! i’m hoping to get back to it in march, but we’ll see!
- when broadway was black: the triumphant story of the all-black musical that changed the world by caseen gaines: i’ve been listening to this on audiobook (mostly while i walk my dog and run errands), and i couldn’t recommend it more highly for anyone who likes theatre/is interested in it!
in addition to finishing up the above reads, i’m also hoping to read these books in march:
- ghosts by dolly alderton — after reading and loving everything i know about love, i’ve been really anticipating this one but never got around to it!
- wandering souls by cecile pin — i was gifted a copy of wandering souls, which comes out next month! i don’t know a whole lot about it, except that ocean vuong blurbed it!
- the wonders by elena medel — this is another book i was gifted, and know very little about! but i’m excited to get to reading it!
this month, i’ve been listening to a lot of british alternative & indie pop! which mostly just means the 1975, holly humberstone, benjamin francis leftwich, beabadoobee — and then of course, i’ve been listening to daisy jones & the six, and gracie abrams’ new album, good riddance. i also found out about a new band, inhaler — i’m obsessed with them, mostly because they’re called inhaler because the lead singer (who happens to be bono of u2 fame’s son) has asthma. naming your band after your asthma is an incredibly cococore thing to do — but more on this later.
all things considered, february has been a pretty quiet month over in cocoland, and hopefully march will be too. i’ve been helping an extended family member with some health things, and dealing with some other things, so it’s just been kind of a lot over here. some upcoming things i’m looking forward to in march:
- daisy jones and the six! i’m a bit hesitant/anxious/filled with trepidation, as is often the case with book to screen adaptations, but i’m really excited to hear the songs + to see daisy’s story unfold. i’ve actually got tickets to the seattle screening of daisy jones and the six, but i’m not entirely sure if i’ll be able to make it.
- new music — there’s the new boygenius album, the record, coming out, and some vinyls i’ve backordered / preordered should be getting here this month (such as: daisy jones and the six, lizzy mcalpine’s give me a minute, holly humberstone’s can you afford to lose me)!
- live music — remember when i mentioned getting into inhaler? i originally got into them as a bit of a joke, just because the asthma/inhaler thing was super entertaining to me (as someone who has asthma), but … i’m seeing them in concert in march, so i don’t think it’s a joke anymore. that, and they’ve been in my top 3 most listened to artists on airbuds widget pretty consistently so…! that being said, i really am excited to see them live — i haven’t been to a concert in so long!
- hopefully getting through my creative slump and going back to normal! i’ve been really behind on my reading journal, and i just haven’t really been motivated to post on bookstagram lately. i’m hoping all of that will come to an end soon, and i’ll be back and at it in march!
in case you’ve missed it, here are some posts i wrote this month:
- ARC Review: This Time It’s Real by Ann Liang
- Guest Post: The Magic in Bitter Medicine by Mia Tsai
- Review: When You Wish Upon a Lantern by Gloria Chao
and here are some posts i’ve been loving:
- i’m a huge fan of rereading books, and i’m always curious about what books my friends want to reread, so needless to say, i loved reading michelle’s books i want to reread post!
- i’ve been seeing seven percent of ro devereux around, and i really enjoyed dinipandareads’ review of it!
- i really loved thewordyhabitat’s transparency on book acquiring! highly recommend this read!
- i haven’t been on social media as much this month, so i actually missed seeing all of the discourse around negative book reviews, but i 100% agree with aliteraryescape’s post on why they’re necessary!
- another downside of not being on social media as much is that i’ve missed finding out about a lot of anticipated releases — i loved theeuphoriczat’s roundup of upcoming 2023 book releases by bipoc authors!
sending y’all a warm hug and hope that march is kind to you! 🤍

Thanks for linking to my post about negative reviews! I LOVED Alone With You in the Ether and I’m always glad to see when someone else does, too. ^_^
