Hi, hello everyone! After a busy week, I thought it would be fun to go back to basics and do the “the last book I…” tag! Stay tuned to see who I have tagged to do this challenge! But let’s get into it!
The Last Book I Bought
I believe it was technically The Book Eaters by Sunyi Dean! This book was in one of my subscription boxes, and it has sat on my shelf since it came home with me. It sounds super good, and it’s definitely one that I need to pick up soon, but I just haven’t been drawn to it since buying it. However, just in case I’m getting my timelines wrong, I believe the last book I also could have bought was The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater! I bought this back when I was in England, in Chichester to be exact, because I love this series so much and I can’t seem to find the first book anywhere over here.
The Last Book I Borrowed
If I’m being completely honest, I don’t remember the last time I borrowed a book from someone. Admittedly, people usually borrow books from me, rather than me from them. However, I think the last book I borrowed from the library was The Princess and the Scoundrel by Beth Revis! This is a Star Wars book that I am insanely excited about – I just never got around to listening to the audiobook when my hold came around. I blame my reading slump for that, but I now have the physical copy on my shelf waiting to be read. I want to annotate it, which is why I haven’t picked it up yet, as I’m in the middle of another annotating project. Definitely soon, though!
The Last Book I Was Gifted
Cossette gifted me a copy of The Nature of Witches by Rachel Griffin. I just know I am going to adore this book, so I’m waiting until I can give it all of my love and attention, and when I’m in a fantasy mood. The edition is stunning and has flowers on the hardcover under the dust jacket – it instantly became one of my favourites. I can’t wait to pick this one up, and I think it’s going to be soon! I know Caitlyn also really liked it, and I trust her reviews fully, so I can’t wait.
The Last Book I Gave To Someone Else
I leant out my copy of Picnic at Hanging Rock by Joan Linsday to a friend at work, and she loved it! Picnic at Hanging Rock is one of my favourite classics, so I was so excited when my friend said she wanted to read it. I think it might be some of the finest Australian literature there is, and it paints such an interesting portrayal of historical Australia. I love the mystery in this book too, and I love that questions are never fully answered. It’s definitely one I recommend to anyone, and it’s short too, so perfect for reading when you need to boost your reading at the end of the year.
The Last Book I Started
I just started The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches by Sangu Mandanna, which is super fun so far! It’s our upcoming book club pick, and I’m so glad we’re reading it together. I know I am going to really enjoy this book, and I’m looking forward to seeing where it goes! I also recently picked up If We Were Villains by M.L. Rio for the first time (shock I know considering Cait adores it), and I really like that one too! It’s my dedicated train book, so it’s the book I read on my commute to work. I can’t wait to see how that ends, too.
The Last Book I Finished
According to Goodreads, my last book finished was The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern! I don’t often include this book in my Goodreads goal because I am always reading it, but this time I didn’t want to leave it out. It’s no secret that this book means the entire world to me, and I adore it. Honestly, I don’t know who I would have been had I not found this book. It brings me so much joy and comfort, it is simply unmatched. I finished this through an audiobook at work, and it was so magical. I love the narrator, and I really do think it enhances the story. It is a book I will never grow tired of, and I’m itching to start it again.
The Last Book I Rated 5 Stars
The last book I rated 5 stars was Arsenic and Adobo by Mia P Manansala! This book was simply brilliant, and I enjoyed every moment of it. This was another book we read for our book club, and it was an absolute joy. I listened to this one via audiobook as well, and some moments had me visibly reacting while sitting at my desk at work. I loved the story, loved the characters, and the narrator was perfect too. I can’t wait to get through my backlog of books so I can continue the rest of the series.
The Last Book I Rated 2 Stars
Flower Crowns and Fearsome Things by Amanda Lovelace. I don’t read a lot of poetry but I’m trying to branch into it, this just wasn’t good. I don’t have much to say about it other than it was simply forgettable.
The Last Book I DNF’ed
Icebreaker by Hannah Grace! This is a Tik Tok sensation, and I really wanted to love it. After all, I’m learning to figure skate, so I figured I would appreciate it, but that wasn’t the case. It was so dull, and I didn’t like any of the characters. In my opinion, it would’ve been better had the book been a bit shorter, but I never got to the end. I found it a chore to read, which was why I made the ultimate decision to DNF.
The Last Book I Listened To
This was also The Night Circus, but before that it was The Getaway by Lamar Giles. The Getaway is an absolute wild ride, but I really enjoyed it! I thought it was going to be a simple mystery set in a theme park, but boy was I wrong. I highly recommend keeping an eye on the content warnings for this one. It was full of twists and turns and it was another one I listened to while working, so I was visibly reacting to this one too. Honestly, I’m still processing everything that happened in this book, it was utterly wild.
There we have it! Thank you for reading the “Last Book I…” tag, and I hope you join in! I would like to tag Robin from The Last Page, Delaney from Reading With Delaney and Queenie from The Erudite Labyrinth to join in with this challenge!
Happy reading!
Delaney
Thank you for the tag, this looks so fun! Despite having read it so many times, I have never listened to the audiobook of the night circus. I might have to check it out!
