Hello there! After taking a (much needed) two week hiatus, and truly succumbing to Obi-Wan Kenobi brain rot, I am back to posting regularly on the blog! I’m super excited to be back, and I’m looking forward to sharing content with everyone again. This week, I thought it would be fun to combine two of my favourite things in the world: books and Star Wars! There are so many novels and novelisations in the Star Wars franchise out there in the world, so let’s talk about a few I’m looking forward to reading soon.
- Revenge of the Sith Novelisation by Matthew Stover
If you’re active in Star Wars fandom, you’ll know that this is a big deal. This novel goes into serious depth with Obi-Wan and Anakin’s relationship, and just how far each of them go throughout the course of Revenge of the Sith. This came onto my radar because of my friend Caity, who is also a massive Star Wars fan! They speak so highly of this novel, and how heartbreaking it is, so I’m truly excited to have my feelings hurt by it. In fact, one of my favourite examples of how painful this book is going to be can be found in this quote: “Anakin.” Obi-Wan’s voice had gone soft, and his hand was warm on Anakin’s arm. “There is no other Jedi I would rather have at my side right now. No other man.” If you listen closely, you can hear me crying already.

- E.K Johnston’s Padmé Series
Kicking off with Queen’s Shadow, E.K Johnston writes entirely about Padmé, and her journey from being Queen to being a Senator. For those who don’t know, Padmé is my favourite female Star Wars character, and I love what she stands for. She truly is the heart of the rebellion, and her never ending need to help people is truly inspiring. Not only does she see the good in everyone, but she brings out the good in them too, which we have seen in her relationship with Anakin. Getting to see her develop further as a character, which is not something that the prequel trilogy delivered in my humble opinion, makes me so excited to dive in. In all honesty, Padmé doesn’t get the love she deserves considering all she has done for the Jedi, Republic and the early stages of the rebellion. In fact, without her, there wouldn’t be a rebellion to begin with. I look forward to learning more about Padmé through this series, and celebrating all that there is to love about Padmé Amidala.

- Leia, Princess of Alderaan by Claudia Grey
Ok, I know I just said Padmé is my favourite character, and I will maintain that opinion, but Leia is a very very close second. It’s no surprise that this book is close to the top of my list, because Princess Leia of Alderaan has a very special place in my heart. When I first watched the original trilogy, Leia was instantly my favourite, and that has remained (almost) the same ever since. Not only is she brave and strong, but she is also sassy and smart and doesn’t take anyone’s rubbish. I think she’s a great role model for women, so it’s fantastic that more of her story is being shared through Claudia Grey’s writing. Despite being one of the main characters in the entire franchise, we don’t actually know a great deal about Leia, which is a massive shame if you ask me. I’m really looking forward to getting a deeper understanding into what motivates her, and what circumstances in her life brings her to make the decisions she does. Honestly, sign me up for more Leia content because I think she deserves it. Afterall, she’s only waited 45 years for it.

- Master and Apprentice by Claudia Grey
Who is surprised to see another Claudia Grey novel on this list? What can I say, she writes very good Star Wars novels. This one is very exciting for me for many reasons, but the main one is because we get to see more of the dynamic between Obi-Wan Kenobi and his Master, Qui-Gon Jinn. We briefly get to see their relationship throughout The Phantom Menace, but not enough to truly feel satisfied that we know all. After all, we have years upon years of Obi-Wan’s Jedi training missing in our knowledge. This novel sets out to explore the relationship between Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon, and just how much external forces seem to influence their bond. From the sounds of it, we also get to read more about Count Dooku, which is also another exciting factor that I cannot wait for! I think this will be a great way to fill the void Obi-Wan Kenobi is inevitably going to leave in my heart, so I will for sure be jumping in when the series is over. Kenobi brain rot, indeed.

- The Princess and the Scoundrel by Beth Revis
Finally, the Han/Leia book I deserve. Guys, I have so much hype for this, it isn’t even funny. This book is set to be the romantic, swoony, glorious romance novel set in the Star Wars universe and I am unbelievably excited. Set after the events in Return of the Jedi, this story follows Han and Leia on their honeymoon aboard the Halcyon (yes, the very same that is now at Walt Disney World!). Knowing these two, this will definitely not be the peaceful getaway they were expecting, but we would expect nothing less from this duo. I am confident this book will contain the sarcastic banter between the two of them, as well as tender moments of yearning that will leave me giddy for days. I think this book will be a great way to bridge the gap between the end of the rebellion and the start of the resistance, and I cannot wait to see Han and Leia kick ass together like usual. Please, Beth Revis, I need this book now.
