Happy Wednesday, my friends! I hope that the week has been treating you well so far!

Work has been really busy lately, so I’ve been reading at a much slower pace than usual. However, I was lucky enough to receive ARCs of two of my most anticipated reads of 2022, Chloe Gong’s Foul Lady Fortune and Elisa A. Bonnin’s Dauntless!

I’ve been sneaking in all the reading time I can manage while also juggling work and trying to maintain a somewhat healthy sleep schedule, and I thought it would be fun to talk a little bit about each book and share some of my spoiler-free thoughts!

Mini Reviews: See You Yesterday, Boulevard of Dreams, Rivals and This May End Badly

Hi friends! Can you believe we’re about half way through June? This month has been a crazy one, as the summer camp program I’m in charge of began. Which means that at any given point there can be 7 camps running in one week, so to say that my life has been busy would be an understatement!

With my busy work schedule, I thought that this week it would be nice to share some mini reviews of books that I’ve read in the last few months! For this set of mini reviews I’ll be featuring: See You Yesterday, Boulevard of Dreams, Rivals, and This May End Badly. Teenage baker Syd sends ripples of heartbreak through Austin’s queer community when a batch of post-being-dumped brownies turns out to be magical—and makes everyone who eats them break up.

Unless, of course, it was done by my brownies. Then it’s getting undone.

Syd (no pronouns, please) has always dealt with big, hard-to-talk-about things by baking. Being dumped is no different, except now Syd is baking at the Proud Muffin, a queer bakery and community space in Austin. And everyone who eats Syd’s breakup brownies . . . breaks up. Even Vin and Alec, who own the Proud Muffin. And their breakup might take the bakery down with it. Being dumped is one thing; causing ripples of queer heartbreak through the community is another. But the cute bike delivery person, Harley (he or they, check the pronoun pin, it’s probably on the messenger bag), believes Syd about the magic baking. And Harley believes Syd’s magical baking can fix things, too—one recipe at a time.

Review: Great or Nothing by Joy McCullough, Caroline Tung Richmond, Tess Sharpe, and Jessica Spotswood

Let’s Talk: Books by AAPI Authors I’m Looking Forward To

Happy Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month! I think that it’s always so important to celebrate our cultures and heritage, but I think after the last few years it’s extra important to celebrate and uplift the AAPI community. 

There are so many exciting new books coming out this year by AAPI authors, so I thought it would be fun to talk about some of the ones that I’m looking forward to!
